Sebastian’s Arrows Chapter I of an unpublished novel by Christopher R. Bales.
Sebastian’s Arrowsis a psychic/horror novel with elements of a classic mystery. Steven Gray is a man confronted by pain and disturbing visions His search for the source of his torment leads him across the ocean where he finds he shares a sublime psychic connection with a blind deaf-mute. He also finds something else: Dr. Helen Lawrence. She has convinced Stephan to travel from his home in Sacramento, California to the picturesque town of York, England on the pretense of helping him with his inexplicable affliction. But Dr. Lawrence needs him for something else; to help solve a mystery that has haunted her for two years and to find someone that was lost to her: a blind and deaf-mute patient named Darien Church. In this estranged young man is hidden the key to the enigmatic turn of both their lives.
The investigation leads Steven and Helen to the town of Downshollow, located at the center of the North York Moors. There they find an insidious cult run by a man with the charismatic fervor to sway thousands behind the gated walls of The Church of the Light. But this is more than just a destructive cult. There is something ancient, powerful, and alien buried beneath as Steven Gray discovers when he is forced to confront the instigator of this insanity, a man they call “The Father”, a man formerly known as Joseph Sebastian, once the humble pastor of the secluded town of Downshollow.
Morbid Curiosity Cures the Blues Is a collection of the unsavory, unwise, unorthodox, and unusual. It was published by Scribner and edited by Loren Rhoads. My story: The Pain of Art vs. the Art of Pain is one of the many works contributed to this odd collection. There is also a image of my sculpture: Missing in Action featured with the writing.
